FAQ

Do I need to install an unzip program?

No. Archives are extracted inside your browser, so it works on locked-down PCs, Chromebooks, Macs and phones.

Why do some file names look garbled?

ZIPs made on older Korean, Japanese or Chinese Windows store names in a legacy code page. The tool auto-detects Korean (CP949) names and lets you pick other encodings. 'Download as fixed ZIP' saves a copy with UTF-8 names that display correctly everywhere.

Can it open password-protected archives?

Yes for ZIP, if you know the password: both classic ZipCrypto and AES-encrypted ZIPs are supported. Password-protected 7Z and RAR files aren't supported yet. It can't recover unknown passwords.

Is there a file size limit?

ZIP, TAR and GZ are read in small pieces, so multi-GB files work. 7Z and RAR are loaded into memory, so files above 1-2 GB may be slow or fail.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens locally in your browser.
